Jennifer McGuire Wright
photographer, scientist, in pursuit of the wonder
Beginning my professional life as an Earth scientist gave me a profound appreciation of the complexity of the universe. Science guides my inspiration in capturing connections to dynamic places. Science and engineering underly the creation of the camera as a tool of the photograph. A photograph, then, reflects the relationships of nature – ancient mountains and the transience of weather, salty waves surging toward a magmatic moon, the spreading warmth of a star as dawn breaks across the surface of the planet.
Texture in nature speaks to me of the forces that shape it, and the sensations of the moment that took millennia to create in the instant of time and place.
I am drawn to the tension, seeking the momentous and the constant, finding the places for my mind to wander the universe.
I was honored to be selected to display for the Peninsula Art League 22nd Annual Open Juried Show at the Gig Harbor History Museum from October 22nd-November 24th, 2024
Find my work alongside many phenonmenal landscape photographers in the 2021 coffee table book Chasing Magic: A Celebration of Women Nature Photographers
My work was exhibited at the Bayside Special Services Library in Virginia Beach in 2017 – a place that supports people with special needs, a commitment close to my heart.
